Former University of Louisville football commitment Isaiah Ford, a four-star wide receiver who still has the Cardinals under consideration, will announce his final college decision at 2 p.m. Wednesday on national signing day, his coach, according to Verlon Dorminey of Trinity Christian High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
Ford, who reopened his recruitment after Charlie Strong left Louisville for Texas but has remained a U of L target under Bobby Petrino, is down to the Cards, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Florida, Dorminey said.
“(U of L’s new coaches) have come in and done a good job,” said Dorminey, who believes the Cards are confident they can get Ford to recommit. “They were here last week to see him play basketball. They were around, so that was good.”
Virginia Tech was seen as the the clear runner-up for Ford when he committed to U of L last spring, and Ford took official visits to U of L and Virgina Tech in December. Ford is also an NCAA Division I-caliber basketball player who wants to play both sports in college.
U of L’s basketball coaches had invited him to walk on when he was previously committed. Dorminey said Virginia Tech’s basketball coaches have been highly interested in Ford joining their team he commits to the Hokies’ football team.
Ford scored 59 points in a game last week.
“He’s a great athlete, and he’s a better kid, too,” Dorminey said. “He’s a great athlete, a great leader. I can promise you he’s a special athlete.”
